In recent days, there have been incidents involving drones in various places in Russia. Authorities reported Tuesday that a Ukrainian drone was shot down near the Russian capital Moscow. It was loaded with explosives. This information cannot be independently verified.
According to Russian authorities, drones have also been repeatedly shot down in recent days in other places, particularly in Russia’s southern provinces. This shows that Ukraine has been upgraded. It no longer just defends its own territory, but also attacks Russian infrastructure.
Ukrainian UJ-22 drones are used for the attacks. The Ukrainians are not allowed to use weapons from the West in attacks on Russian territory. The UJ-22 was developed by a company in Kiev, reports “Spiegel”.
Range up to 800 kilometers
However, the drone looks more like a military aircraft. There’s a propeller on her nose. In addition, the UJ-22 has landing gear and classic airplane wings. However, the drone does not contain model aircraft technology, but a state-of-the-art drive. According to the manufacturer, the UJ-22 can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour and fly at altitudes of up to 6,000 meters.
The Ukrainian drone can be controlled remotely within a radius of about 100 kilometers. Even distances of 800 kilometers are possible autonomously. In theory, the drone could launch at the Ukrainian border and cover a distance well beyond Moscow.
The big advantage of the drone lies in its flexible operation. According to the manufacturer, the UJ-22 should be ready to fly in less than 10 minutes after unpacking. This allows for fast movement, which is a huge advantage, especially in a war zone.
Russia is preparing
According to Ukrjet, the drone is mainly used for reconnaissance. There is special software for the drone. This can be used to automatically evaluate aerial photos and identify enemy positions, for example. In addition, recordings are automatically improved in bad weather conditions – for example, better exploration is possible in fog.
Because the drone can also transport weights of up to 20 kilograms, it is also suitable as a small kamikaze drone. Explosives can be attached to the drone and then detonated at a specific location. However, the drone can also be used to quickly transport essential goods such as medicines.
Russia also seems to have recognized the danger of Ukrainian drones. After President Vladimir Putin (70) fired several times at the neighboring country with Iranian Shahded drones, he had anti-aircraft systems installed on the roofs of houses in Moscow a few weeks ago. The fact that a Ukrainian drone has now crashed near Moscow is psychologically important for Ukrainian warfare. The government of Volodymyr Zelensky (44) shows that even Moscow is within reach of Ukrainian weapons. It’s a clear signal. (zis)
