As Millenium Media officially confirmed a few days ago, “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” is a reboot in development where the infernal superhero can once again prove his quick wits. After Guillermo Del Toro already directed two “Hellboy” films and Neil Marshall delivered his “Hellboy – Call Of Darkness” in 2019, we now have another “Hellboy” in the house.
Brian Taylor, who has been able to gain action experience in the past as a director of ‘Crank’, will take on the role of director. Also – unsurprisingly given the title – the comic adaptation is based on the “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” miniseries. In it, the titular character travels to the Appalachians in the 1950s with a rookie agent from the Bureau For Paranormal Research And Defense (BPRD), where they encounter an isolated community of witches led by a devil who is also a witch. : the crooked man.
This will be the new ‘Hellboy’ actor
As has already been announced (eg via deadline), Jack Kesy will step into the titular role of Hellboy, succeeding Ron Perlman and David Harbour. Kesy is known, among other things, as Black Tom in “Deadpool 2”. He has also previously appeared in the films 12 Strong, The Outpost, Tom Clancy’s Merciless and Baywatch, as well as the series Claws and The Strain. Kesy will star in Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

Hellboy comics writer Mike Mignola and Chris Golden are writing the script. The development of “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” has already progressed to the point that production in Bulgaria is expected to start in April 2023.
Is Hellboy: The Crooked Man coming to cinemas?
Interestingly, the film rights belong to Millenium Media, who have also commissioned the new adaptation. As mentioned, a rental should not be on board yet. This could indicate that ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is not coming to cinemas at all, but will end up directly on a streaming service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
This is also underlined by the fact that the first “Hellboy” reboot of 2019 failed at the box office with only $55 million in worldwide revenue on a budget of $40 to $50 million. In addition, the critics were mostly extremely negative. Bee For example, only 17 percent of film reviews are positive, while the viewing figures are 48 percent positive reviews.
So whether Hellboy: The Crooked Man will attract another Hollywood studio to bring the film to cinemas after the big flop of Hellboy: Call Of Darkness is highly questionable. A direct publication via streaming of “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” is therefore quite likely, but of course no decision has been made yet. The coming months will certainly give us information about this.
