FBI: Covid-19 could have come from a leak in a lab

Director of the US Federal Police (FBI), Christopher Wray, believes that the pandemic was caused by the covid-19 virus was “probably” caused by a leak in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhanthe origin of the disease.

“The FBI has argued for some time that the origin of the pandemic probably lies in a possible incident at a laboratory in Wuhan,” Wray told US Fox News in an interview on Tuesday.

“I’ll just point out that the Chinese government, it seems to me, is doing everything it can to try to thwart and obscure the work that’s being done here, the work that we’re doing, the work that our U.S. government and close foreign partners are doing. And that’s unfortunate for everybody. “, the security official added.

Wray explained that the FBI has experts who focus on “dangers of biological threats”, which include elements such as the emergence of new viruses such as covid 19 and are concerned that these threats do not fall “into the wrong hands, enemy states or nations, terrorists or criminals”.

He also insisted that the Chinese government is trying to block the international investigation into the origin of the coronavirus.

Wray’s comments come after the US Department of Energy concluded that Covid-19 “most likely” originated in a laboratory. Chineseaccording to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper noted that four other US departments still believe the coronavirus outbreak is likely the result of natural transmission, while two others remain undecided.

Without confirming the article, the spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, acknowledged last Monday that within the US administration there is no consensus on the origin of the pandemic and that Washington wants the “facts” to avoid other pandemics in the future.

For its part, China condemned being the target of “slander” about the origin of covid-19.

“Finding the origin of COVID-19 is a scientific issue and should not be politicized. The parties involved should stop puffing up the lab leak theory and smearing China,” Chinese foreign affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Monday.
