Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been arrested in the Norwegian capital Oslo, Reuters news agency reported Wednesday morning. Together with other demonstrators, they were carried away from the Ministry of Finance.
The activists are calling for wind turbines to be removed from reindeer pastures on the lands of the Sami indigenous people in Central Norway.
Thunberg, holding a red, blue, yellow and green Sami flag, was apprehended by police officers and carried away as hundreds of protesters chanted slogans.
Norway’s Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that two wind farms in Fosen violated Sami rights under international treaties, but the turbines are still operational more than 16 months later.
The 20-year-old was later released along with other protesters. (oo)
