At least 16 people were killed in a collision between a freight train and a passenger train in Central Greece on Wednesday evening. A spokesman for the fire service said this on the state radio (ERT). 85 people were injured. “The search continues,” said the spokesman for the fire service.
Numerous hospitals have been put on alert. It was said that there were 350 people on board the passenger train.

Greek television showed videos from the scene of the accident at Tempi in central Greece. The carriages of both trains were destroyed. Firefighters and rescue workers tried to find survivors in the rubble, reporters on the scene said. (sda/dpa)
