“Laboratory incident in Wuhan”: FBI continues to assume that Corona came from the laboratory The Brexit Brits are spitting Switzerland into the EU soup

The director of the US Federal Police FBI has confirmed his agency’s previous assessment that a possible lab error in China was “highly likely” responsible for the spread of the coronavirus.

“The FBI has for some time assumed that the origin of the pandemic is most likely a possible laboratory incident in Wuhan,” said Christopher Wray in an interview published Tuesday evening (local time) with US broadcaster Fox News. “This is about a possible leak in a laboratory controlled by the Chinese government.”

Wray added that investigations are ongoing and many details have yet to be revealed. However, he wanted to point out that the Chinese government had “done its best” to “obstruct and obscure” the work of the US government and foreign partners. This is unfortunate for everyone.

National Security Council communications director John Kirby made it clear on Monday that there is still no unified view within the US government about the origin of the coronavirus. “There is currently no consensus in the US government on exactly how Covid came about,” he said.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Department of Energy has changed its assessment of the origin of the coronavirus and is now assuming a possible lab error — but only with a “low” degree of certainty. China had rejected this. Beijing foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said the search for the origin of the virus is a scientific matter and “should not be politicized”. (sda/dpa)
