Zelensky replaces the commander in the Donbass region after Russian advances in the area

Eduard Moskaliov took over after the invasion

President of Ukraine Volodymyr ZelenskyHa dismissed the commander of the United Forces in the Donbas regionin the east of the country, amid an increase in fighting in the area and progress made by Russian troops in recent weeks.

The Ukrainian presidency published on its website a short decree of Zelensky considering the termination Eduard Moskalev, who held that position since March 2022, without stating the reasons for the decision. Moskaliov took office days after the start of the invasion, launched on February 24, 2022.

Russian forces, aided by mercenaries from Wagner’s group, have made various advances in recent weeks in the Donetsk region as part of their tries to capture the city of Bakhmutone of their main targets in eastern Ukraine.
