Crocodile bites human and devours dog

In tropical northern Australia, a crocodile attacked a man (37) on a river and then killed his dog. The attack took place in Bloomfield, Queensland, on Wednesday when the man was walking his dog at a boat ramp.

Rangers discovered and shot the 4.2-meter reptile 200 meters from the site of the attack on Thursday night because it represented an “unacceptable risk”. An autopsy found the dog’s remains in the reptile’s stomach.

A video shared by Australian media showed the crocodile suddenly emerging from the brown water and biting the man on the leg. He managed to free himself and then desperately tried to save his dog, who had pulled the crocodile into the river in no time. Again and again he hit the reptile until it was submerged. The injured man was flown to a hospital in Cairns.

Not the first crocodile attack

The Bloomfield River is known as a popular habitat for crocodiles, said Michael Joyce of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. The incident should serve as a warning to other residents, he stressed. According to AAP, it was the eleventh crocodile attack Down Under in two years.

There was also a reptile attack in Florida. A woman wanted to save her dog from a crocodile while walking her dog. But she lost the fight and died. (SDA/jwg)
