Nord Stream explosion: Moscow calls Biden a “terrorist” After screaming across her face: Madonna counterattacks

The Russian leadership has seized on a report alleging US involvement in blowing up the Nord Stream pipelines and has leveled serious allegations against US President Joe Biden.

“Biden will go down in history as a terrorist,” Russian parliament speaker Vyacheslav Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel on Thursday.

He was responding to a report by US journalist Seymour Hersh that US Navy divers were responsible for the gas pipeline explosions in the Baltic Sea. The White House has already denied the report.

In September 2022, the two strands of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline and one strand of the completed but not yet commissioned Nord Stream 2 pipeline were so badly damaged by explosions that huge amounts of gas are escaping. The investigators found traces of explosives and assume sabotage. The month before, Russia had cut off gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 because Western sanctions against the country prevented repairs to the turbines.

The Russian leadership is suspected of being behind the explosions that severely damaged the pipelines from Russia to Germany at the end of September. Moscow, on the other hand, supported the pipeline sabotage proposition by the United States from the start.

Nord Stream explosion and what was seen of it.

According to Moscow, the Nord Stream 2 line, which is still operational despite the damage, has not yet received approval from the German authorities. In recent years, the US government has sharply criticized Germany’s commitment to the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline, which has long sparked resentment and anger between Berlin and Washington. The pipeline was built to bring Russian gas directly to Germany. The United States had warned Germany not to become too dependent on Russian gas.

Now the well-known investigative journalist Seymor Hersh has put forward in his blog that US special divers attached the explosives to the lines in the Baltic Sea during a NATO exercise in June and later – supported by Norway – detonated them remotely.

The 85-year-old Hersh, who rose to prominence decades ago when US troops exposed the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, has also attracted repeated attention recently with questionable research. The source situation for Nord Stream is uncertain, the US and Norway sharply rejected the report. “This is completely false and a complete fabrication,” said Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the US National Security Council.

In Moscow, on the other hand, the report is widely reported in the media and in politics. According to the published “facts”, an international investigation of the case and the punishment of those responsible is necessary, Volodin demanded.

“If (U.S. President Harry) Truman became a criminal by using nuclear weapons against the civilian population of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, then Biden has become a terrorist who has ordered the destruction of the energy infrastructure of his strategic partners Germany, France and the Netherlands .” , said the head of the Russian parliament. Volodin had previously justified Russian bombing of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as part of Russia’s war of aggression. (aeg/sda/dpa)
