French Coast Guard rescues 45 people in the English Channel The Mannequins of Afghanistan

The French coastguard has rescued 45 migrants who became distressed while crossing the English Channel. As the sea prefecture announced on Wednesday, people were taken to the port of Calais on Tuesday afternoon.

Again and again immigrants cross the English Channel to reach Britain. They often make the journey in small inflatable boats.

The crossing is dangerous, especially since the estuary is used by many large ships. Meanwhile, people are still dying. Four people were killed in a boating accident in the English Channel in mid-December.

The UK saw a record number of boat migrants last year. As confirmed by the British Ministry of Defence, the number of people coming to England in small boats in 2022 was almost 46,000. That is about 17,000 more than last year and the highest number in one year. (cpf/sda/dpa)
