According to state media, a second demonstrator was executed during the systemic protests in Iran. Majidreza Rahnavard was charged with “waging war against God” and was publicly hanged in the northeastern city of Mashad on Monday, state news agency Irna reported.
He was charged by the Iranian judiciary with stabbing two members of the notorious paramilitary Basij militia during protests in November. The court had sentenced him to death in accordance with Islamic law.
Rapper Mohsen Shekari was executed last Thursday. He is said to have attacked a Basij member with a gun, spread terror and blocked a road. The summary trial without a lawyer and his execution were strongly condemned at home and abroad. His death has sparked a new wave of protests.
