A bomb explosion in the northern Syrian city of Asas killed at least eight people and injured more than twenty others. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Great Britain, reported this on Sunday evening.

The incident took place in a busy market in the center of the city. Rescue teams were on site. The explosion caused significant damage to property and started a fire, the report said. The area north of Aleppo, where the city of Asas is located, is controlled by Turkey.

There has been war in Syria since 2011. Today the country is divided. Head of state Bashar Al-Assad now controls two-thirds of the country again with the help of his allies Russia, Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. The northwest is under the control of opposition forces. (sda/dpa)
