King Charles, who is suffering from cancer, sends an audio message for Easter. Two years of emergency: criticism of Bukele’s fight against gangs in El Salvador

British King Charles III. (75) reminded people of the importance of mutual aid for the coming Easter. The monarch sent an audio message to the traditional Royal Maundy service on Maundy Thursday, but was not expected to attend due to his cancer. Charles’ daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, 42, is also currently being treated for a cancer diagnosis.

Jesus was an example of this, “how we should serve others and care for each other”Charles said, according to the British news agency PA. He also remembered how much they need and benefit from it as a nation “who extend their hand of friendship to us, especially in times of need”.

The audio message was recorded at Buckingham Palace. In one photo, Charles sat at a desk in a blue suit, with a microphone and blooming flowers in front of him. Due to his illness, Charles is currently not making any major public appearances.

To kick off the Easter celebrations, the monarch hands out special coins on Maundy Thursday. According to the palace, the centuries-old tradition commemorates Jesus washing the apostles’ feet during the Last Supper. Charles, who has been king for a year and a half, handed out the coins in York last year. His wife Queen Camilla (76) would represent him at this year’s ceremony in Worcester. (rbu/sda/dpa)
