Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas believes that Russia’s biggest enemy is the liberal democracies.

Estonia has expelled a Russian diplomat for alleged interference in the country’s internal affairs. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on the short message service X on Tuesday that the Russian embassy had interfered in legal proceedings and obtained documents from a criminal case. The documents were then “published on Russian online networks.”

The minister did not provide further details on the case, but called for an end to the “coordinated hybrid attacks by Russian special services against the security of the Republic of Estonia.” It was also said that the official note on the expulsion had been sent to the charge d’affaires of the Russian embassy in Tallinn.

Relationships are getting worse and worse

Relations between Russia and EU and NATO member Estonia have continued to deteriorate since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Last year, both states withdrew their ambassadors from the other country.

Six representatives of Moscow remain at the embassy in Tallinn following the recent expulsion of the Russian diplomat, according to a spokeswoman for the Estonian Foreign Ministry. (AFP)
