Millions of people in France may be affected by a cyber attack targeting the country’s employment office. As the agency announced on Wednesday in Paris, these are people who have been registered as unemployed in the past twenty years or who have registered on the agency’s portal to look for work.
Names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and social security numbers could have fallen into the attackers’ hands, but bank details would not. The attack will not affect the payment of unemployment benefits. After a complaint, the Paris public prosecutor’s office started a preliminary investigation.
According to the information, the agency had no idea who could be behind the attack. Just over a month ago, more than 33 million people in France were affected by a cyber attack against two health insurers. (sda/dpa)
