He wanted to be funny and got arrested for it. Police have arrested a Swiss man (63) at Siargao Airport in Del Carmen in the Philippines.
After his holiday, the man actually wanted to leave the island on March 5. But he is said to have made a bomb joke twice on the airport grounds. An airport employee then reported to the police. And the officers immediately intervened. The 63-year-old was taken away and checked. No indications of explosives were found, local media report.
There is a risk of up to five years in prison
The Swiss was accused of violating the anti-bomb joke law, which makes it illegal to maliciously spread false information or deliberately threaten with bombs, explosives or similar devices or means of destruction. Anyone who violates this faces a prison sentence of five years or a fine of the equivalent of 630 francs.
The incident is a reminder that bomb pranks will not be tolerated at the airport or on planes, the local police chief said. (ymh)
