65-year-old overwhelmed in Germany after large police presence EU countries want to step up the fight against drug smuggling

A German special operations commando (SEK) large-scale operation at the Luisen Hospital in Aachen, Germany ended late Monday evening. A 65-year-old woman who had barricaded herself in a hospital room for hours was overpowered.

The police initially provided no information about the woman’s health. According to initial findings, no other people were injured, a Cologne police spokeswoman said.

The woman was rolled out on a stretcher covered with thermal foil, a dpa reporter reported. A large number of police and fire brigades were on site for hours due to a possible threat.

The fire brigade was informed about a fire in the hospital around 5 p.m. The fire in the bed area had been extinguished, the fire brigade announced in the evening. How exactly this happened was initially unclear. (sda/dpa)
