A spokesperson for the Berlin police spoke of a “search operation” on Sunday morning. Troops from the State Criminal Police (LKA) of Lower Saxony, the Federal Criminal Police (BKA) and the Berlin police are hunting for the two wanted RAF terrorists Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg (62) on Sunday morning.
Shots were also heard in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain, as ‘Bild’ reports, but according to a police spokeswoman, they could also be popping sounds, for example from stun grenades. At least two arrests are said to have taken place.
New mugshots of Garweg were not published until Saturday. The public was warned that the man they were looking for could be armed. The new photos of Garweg were discovered during a search of the apartment of Daniela Klette (65), also an RAF member, who was arrested on Monday. Investigators also found weapons in her apartment.
