Basketball superstar LeBron James (39) scores his 40,000th in his NBA home game for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Denver Nuggets. Point and thus another milestone in his career.
LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer for over a year, is the first player to reach the 40,000 point mark. He made the historic throw early in the second quarter. He scored a total of 26 points in the home defeat of 114:124. At the end of the game he has 40,017 points.
“To be the first player to do something like that is of course very cool in this league,” said LeBron James. “After all, I know the history of the competition. I know which greats have already played and are currently playing in the NBA. But the most important thing for me is the wins, and I hate that I set the record in a game we lost.”
Many records are still possible
Reaching the 40,000-point mark is less important than the record James took from the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar just over a year ago: the NBA’s highest scoring crown. Nevertheless, it is once again a special moment for which LeBron James was extensively celebrated by the fans of the LA Lakers and by the organization (with a video on the stadium cube).
LeBron James can still break more records in his career. He ranks second on the all-time rankings for minutes played, seventh for games played, fourth for assists and eighth for steals (SDA).
