A cargo ship rammed a bridge full of cars in southern China, causing it to partially collapse. The cargo ship hit the road bridge southeast of the Guangzhou metropolis in Guangdong province early on Thursday morning (local time), local authorities announced on the online platform Weibo. An unknown number of vehicles fell into the water, state news agency Xinhua reported.

Images from the accident scene showed that a bus had fallen into the cargo hold of the cargo ship. According to Chinese media reports, only the driver was on the bus. The line operator was unable to contact him after the accident. According to Xinhua, there was initially no reliable information about the number of possible victims or the cause of the accident.
