Former US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter has died

Former US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter has died. He began his career as a military officer and later rose to various positions in the Department of Defense and the Pentagon. From 2009 to 2011, Ash Carter was responsible, among other things, for the purchase of the US Arsenal. He was Secretary of Defense under President Obama from 2015 to 2017.

Carter was best known for opening all military positions in the armed forces to women. This also paved the way for participation in dangerous combat missions. Carter also ended the travel ban for transgender people. When President Trump reinstated this ban in 2017, he voiced harsh criticism.

After his service, Carter directed the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard’s Kennedy School. Ash Carter was 68 years old.
