Nearly nine years after a district court ruling on sedition charges against the now 95-year-old notorious Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck, the Hamburg Regional Court is considering the woman’s appeal.

Haverbeck, from North Rhine-Westphalia, must appear in court in June because she opposes a 10-month prison sentence, a spokesperson for the regional court announced on Friday. Nine years ago, Haverbeck publicly claimed during and after a court hearing that the Auschwitz concentration camp was not an extermination camp.

For years, criminal courts have repeatedly dealt with the infamous agitator. In 2004 she was convicted for the first time and fined. Recently, sentences without parole have been handed down; Haverbeck has been in prison in Bielefeld for more than two years for Holocaust denial.

Denied murder of over a million people

She repeatedly claimed that the Auschwitz concentration camp was not an extermination camp and that no mass murder took place there. Historians estimate that the Nazis murdered at least 1.1 million people in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp alone.

According to a report in the newspaper “Neue Westfälische” on Wednesday, the delay in Hamburg had several reasons. According to the court, cases involving suspects in custody should be treated with priority. An appointment was scheduled in 2018, but it was canceled due to illness; Another planned date in 2020 was canceled due to the corona pandemic. A recent appointment in January was subsequently postponed due to illness.
