Going to jail: model and ex-footballer Giovanni P.

With kicks, punches, blows with a hammer and finally killed via a bench: Alessandra M.* († 56) was brutally murdered near her home on August 23, 2022 by her then boyfriend Giovanni P.* (28). The fourth division footballer, who also worked as a model, has now been sentenced to life imprisonment, reports the Italian ‘Quotidiano Nazionale’. He must also pay compensation to the victim’s relatives. A few weeks before the crime, the victim had reported stalking to the suspect.

Giovanni P. tried to appeal to his madness until the end: “If you believe that these are normal things, done by someone who can fully understand, then I deserve life imprisonment.” His head wasn’t there. He’s living a nightmare because he’s so sorry. As he explains in court, this is a heavier punishment than a prison sentence. His words leave the responsible judge rather cold. Neither he nor the victim’s family buy his version.

He only needs two hours to make his judgement. Giovanni P.’s base motives also contribute to the highest possible punishment. In addition to the stalking, the court in Bologna took into account the perpetrator’s intentions and the close emotional bond he had with his girlfriend at the time.

After the verdict was pronounced, there was applause and the surviving sister of the deceased let out a cry of relief. Visibly moved, she explains, “My sister is gone and no one will ever give her back to me, but I know she’s smiling from there today.”

She doesn’t think much of Giovanni P.’s words. From the beginning, she didn’t like his manipulative nature towards him and her sister. (mgf)
