Signa’s bankruptcy in late February offers bargain hunters and collectors of René Benko memorabilia another opportunity to secure a piece from the company founder’s extensive treasure trove.
The furnishings of the rooms on the first floor of Palais Harrach in central Vienna will then be auctioned. According to auction house Aurena, this is the first floor, which Benko personally served as an office and representation space with 100 square meters.
There is something for almost every taste and budget: an almost four-meter-long desk with a stone base is going under the hammer, as well as a custom-made carpet of 54 square meters. Even the 78-light chandelier above the beautiful staircase has been turned into money. But perhaps not everyone has the right space at home for the three-metre high display window of the ‘Chrysler Building’. The soundproof meeting cubes may be more practical.
Cigars are also for sale
With a bit of luck and the right money, you can bid on the ‘Chancellor President’ office chair and the ‘Chancellor Visitor’ visitor chairs, as well as other designer furniture and lighting. Signa porcelain and silver cutlery are also on the auctioneer’s list, as are a cigar collection and a smartphone tap protection case.
In addition to all kinds of office inventory and toilet facilities, there are plenty of items such as a few rolls of toilet paper or a Signa water bottle at a low starting price, even for those interested on a small budget. Even culture lovers can get their money’s worth: books are offered – often in small packages – at reasonable prices. These include the classics “The Minus Man”, “The Agreement” and “I’ll Tell You Everything”. (saw/sda/awp/apa)
