Russian President Vladimir Putin apparently wants to continue training the smallest of his population for the war: a ‘children’s association’ will be founded under the auspices of the Chechen battalion ‘Akhmat’ to run children’s camps. This is reported by the Russian exile newspaper “Novaya Gazeta”, citing Duma deputy Dmitry Kuznetsov. Accordingly, the first registrations for the camp should be possible this summer.

About a hundred children have to be cared for by men from the Chechen special unit Achmat. These are subordinate to the Chechen ruler and Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov and have in the past fought in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

“We have developed a whole program”

Citing Kuznetsov’s son, the Russian news portal “RTVI” reports that a nationwide competition is being announced in Russia in which parents can register their children. “We have developed a whole program. Children can participate in tactical war games, go for walks, meet modern heroes and historians and scientists, communicate with veterans and military officers of the Northern Military District and watch films,” said Stepan Kuznetsov. The children’s camp should therefore take place in Chechnya.

According to reports, the move comes after the “Union of Fathers of Russia” called in December for the creation of a military-patriotic formation for children. However, according to the Kuznetsov family, the children should not be used in the war. “I joked that I was recruiting children,” Stepan Kuznetsov told “RTVI”. “I can already see how the message is being picked up: there are almost no adults left and they are sending children to war. But we don’t need that, we can do it that way,” his father wrote on Telegram.

In Russia, children have been increasingly influenced by state propaganda since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin himself repeatedly entered classrooms and spread his war propaganda among schoolchildren. He also had history books rewritten so that the children learned propaganda and false claims instead of historical facts regarding their neighboring country.
