At least 19 people have been killed in a serious bus crash in northwestern Mexico. Another 21 were injured; Some of them suffered burns, Sinaloa state authorities said on Tuesday.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the exact number of deaths was unclear because many of the victims were burned in the accident.

According to local media reports, the two-story bus carrying 37 passengers and two drivers collided with a truck on a highway near the city of Elota early Tuesday morning (local time) and burst into flames. The bus was traveling from Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco to Los Mochis in Sinaloa. The cause of the accident was initially unknown. (sda/dpa)
