A further 4,900 Russian armored fighting vehicles were destroyed in the 23 months to January 25, 2024, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said on Monday, citing intelligence information.
Last year, Russia lost about 40 percent fewer vehicles than in 2022. This is probably because the war in 2023 was much more static and Russian units acted more defensively for most of the year, it was said in London.
Since October 2023, Russia has been back on the offensive in eastern Ukraine. Since then, Russian losses have increased to probably 365 main battle tanks and 700 combat vehicles. However, Russia has made only minor territorial gains.
At the same time, the British ministry emphasized that Russia is likely to be able to produce at least a hundred tanks per month and therefore have the opportunity to compensate for battlefield losses and continue the offensive in the near future.
The British Ministry of Defense publishes daily information about the progress of the war since the start of the war against Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow accuses London of disinformation. (SDA)
