Blind in the left eye, a drooping eyelid and bleeding: a young woman went to the hospital with these conditions after a cosmetic procedure.

In Vietnam, a 17-year-old girl went blind in one eye after being injected with fillers at an unlicensed beauty clinic.

The teenager was taken to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City last week with vision loss in his left eye, a drooping eyelid and bleeding, the ‘VN Express’ newspaper reported, citing treating ophthalmologists. Tests showed that after the beauty treatment at a beauty center, an artery in her eye became blocked and part of the eye became inflamed.

The young woman explained that she originally wanted to have fillers injected into her lips and cheeks. But the staff advised her to have the filler injected into her nose as well. Shortly afterwards she felt nauseous and dizzy and could no longer see clearly.

Anti-aging hype in Asia

Police said the facility was only licensed for haircuts. The employees who gave the girl the injections had no authority to do so. It is unclear where the fillers come from. After eight days of hospital treatment, the patient’s eyes slowly reopened, but her vision did not return, it was said.

Fillers are increasingly used for cosmetic purposes to make facial features appear fuller. However, they should only be injected by doctors specialized in dermatology and cosmetic procedures. In many countries in Asia there is a real hype about anti-aging treatments. In very young women, the first wrinkles often tighten and the lips become fuller. (SDA)
