He arrived at the WEF a little late – and without a government plane or private jet: Argentine President Javier Milei (53) landed in Zurich on Tuesday aboard a scheduled flight. On the way to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos GR, he took selfies with passengers and criticized what he called the “socialist agenda” of the event in the Graubünden mountains.

Milei flew with Lufthansa from Buenos Aires to Switzerland – including a transfer in Frankfurt. Fellow passengers on board took photos and selfies with the president, who will arrive in Davos as a relative political newcomer – and is unlikely to leave any sharp remarks there.

Asked by reporters on the flight about his plans in Davos, Milei said he wanted to “sow ideas of freedom in a forum contaminated by the socialist Agenda 2030, which will only bring misery to the world.”

Mini-delegation and lower travel costs

With Argentina still trapped in a 200 percent inflation spiral and economic misery, against which even Milei’s ruthless policies have had no effect, he mingled with the surprised passengers on board.

Milei clearly seems to want to stay close to ordinary people – which he clearly succeeded in doing by traveling to Switzerland as an ordinary passenger. According to his spokesperson, this would also save approximately $300,000 in travel costs.

“How well we chose”

We chose well on Wat.”
