What Pamela R.* (41) from the American state of Ohio has achieved is hard to believe. For years she pretended that her now seven-year-old daughter had cancer – and she even collected donations for that for years.
Until she was exposed. Now the American has been arrested and charged, the New York Post reports.
Mom scammed several thousand dollars
As stated in the indictment, in a blog created for this purpose, R. portrayed her daughter as a blind and sickly child who suffered not only from acute malignant blood cancer and frequent seizures, but also from a number of medical abnormalities. Even her family made R. believe this.
Numerous people showed solidarity with the mother and her sick daughter and donated money. Pamela R. stole several thousand dollars this way – and put the money in her own pocket.
According to police, an organization claimed to have provided the mother with approximately $8,000 for cancer treatment.
Lie because she “liked the support”
To make the story seem credible, R. allegedly spared no effort: not only did she shave her girl’s head, but she also forged documents and repackaged drugs to look like cancer drugs.
According to the report, the mother’s lie was discovered by chance. A primary school nurse tracked her down last week and discovered that the little one is not blind in her right eye, as her mother had previously claimed.
When the police confronted her, R. tried to tell the officers a lie again. However, she eventually relented, stating that she kept up the lie because she “liked the support she was getting.”
R. was charged with theft by deception and must post $50,000 bail to be released pending trial.
