The US has halted the supply of military equipment and weapons to Kiev. John Kirby (61), spokesman for the National Security Council, confirmed this at a press conference at the White House on Thursday.
“We have spent the last support package for which we had money available,” Kirby said in response to a question from a journalist. Kirby: “The assistance we provided has now stopped.”
The former US Navy vice admiral emphasized: “Russian attacks are increasing.” Ukraine urgently needs weapons. “The need is acute right now, especially in these winter months.”
Blocked US Congress
But the superpower has no money for its ally. Kirby said further military assistance depends entirely on Congress.
After a three-week break over the holidays, the US Congress is once again fighting for aid for Ukraine. A proposed so-called national security supplement remains blocked. For how long is a mystery.
The US demands a “clear war plan” from Zelensky
Meanwhile, American politicians are increasing the pressure on Kiev. As the Bloomberg news agency reports, the US will urge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy (45) to “have a clear war plan” for 2024 at the WEF in Davos GR next week.
The national security adviser of US President Joe Biden (81), Jake Sullivan (47), will personally raise the ‘strategy problem’ with Zelensky.
Tensions between the US and Ukraine
Bloomberg speaks of open tensions between Kiev and Washington. This comes as the war is about to enter its third year, European military aid is also stagnant and a Russian arms industry is in full swing, producing weapons 24 hours a day.
