According to the president of the Kalashnikov concern, the Russian army is currently installing new nuclear warheads in its modern KUB-BLA kamikaze drones. The drone’s optimized warhead ensures better performance, CEO Alan Lushnikov told Russian news agency Ria Novosti.

The engineers have successfully tested the improved drone. It now represents “a new product.” The warheads now have an explosive compound that is reportedly 1.7 times stronger than TNT. The design was also changed at the request of the Ministry of Defense.

The goal: significantly increase explosive power

The developers promise that the modernized drone can search for a target in the sky at specific coordinates and then hit it while diving. It can reach a flight speed of up to 130 km/h.

In addition, more and more reports are emerging about converted Iranian Shahed drones. The Russians already use this type of drone, but new Telegram images of drone wreckage now reportedly show that additional engines have been installed.

This new part gives the drone more explosive power, like the new kamikaze drones. “This is the first known case of its use,” an officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces wrote on the Telegram messaging service. This makes them faster and harder for Ukrainian air defenses to detect and shoot down. However, he did not publish the location or time of the recordings.

The new Shahed-238 differs from the models that were previously used mainly in the engine: while the Shahed-136 is driven by a propeller, the new rockets have a jet engine. The debris seen in the footage appears to contain several white pieces of the explosive. Above is a small turbine.
