Reunited: 57 years after their first kiss, an Italian retired couple has found each other.

More than half a century after their first and only kiss in Tuscany, retired teacher Anna Adamanti (78) and former chemical worker Riccardo Fontani (80) found each other with the help of Facebook. Now the two want to get married.

The two Italians lost contact after meeting in the summer of 1965 and married elsewhere, as the newspaper “Corriere Fiorentino” reported on Sunday. At the request of the former teacher, a granddaughter opened a Facebook account for her grandmother a few months ago. Fontani made a friend request and things took off.

According to the two, the romance began at a dance event in the community of Abbadia San Salvatore, on a warm summer evening in 1965. Fontani also brought the then 18-year-old girl home on his Vespa. “We agreed that we would see each other again,” Adamanti recalls. “Then we said goodbye without exchanging names or phone numbers.”

“You have to look for him on Facebook”

Both returned to the dance hall often, but always missed each other. Then they married other partners. Adamanti even gave her son the name Riccardo. Both are now widows.

Adamanti told her granddaughter about the tense meeting in 1965 shortly after her husband’s death. “Grandma, if you want to try to find him, you have to look for him on Facebook. I’m signing you up!” she said.

Wedding in April

58 years after the first kiss and a few days after the friend request, the two met for a cup of coffee at the place where they first met. “We met in the bar in front of the town hall,” the former teacher told “Corriere Fiorentino”.

“He looked at me and asked me, ‘Do we know each other yet?’” She replied, “Oh, you scoundrel. You are the one who kissed me in 1965.” Now they announced during a TV program: “We are getting married in April!” (jwg/SDA)
