Spanish ship rescues 6 sailors from Panamanian ship Guana

Six crew members of the Panamanian ship Guana, which had to be helped after a fire while sailing off the coast of Brittany (northwest France), were rescued by the Spanish ship Esperanza del Mar, which takes them to Brest this Thursday.

The six sailors must arrive on Thursday morning in that port at the western end of Brittany, a spokesman for the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture explained to EFE.

The other 14 members of Guana, which is also moving towards Brest, were evacuated by helicopter and transferred to the mainland.

The 150-meter-long Panamanian ship raised the alarm early Wednesday when it was about 180 kilometers from Cape Penmarc’h, south of Brittany.

Reports indicate that the ship was carrying a cargo of iron shavings bound for Turkey.

The warning was issued after a fire in the machines they were able to controlCrew members, who were not injured.

However, the engines were unusable and the sailors could not repair them, and the weather conditions were difficult.

The Atlantic Maritime Prefecture decided to send the aid and rescue ship Abeille Bourbon as well as the Falcon 50 aircraft.

The Esperanza del Mar, a Navy Social Institute ship that provides assistance to Spanish fishing vessels, was in the area.

The ship was in charge of rescuing part of the crew with the help of a French H160 helicopter from the Lanvéoc-Poulmic Naval Aeronautics Base (BAN).
