Suddenly he hears a scream that shatters the silence. To his horror, he discovers that D. has disappeared: she has fallen off the cliff. The 42-year-old told this story to the police on July 6. But he was arrested on Wednesday, local media reported.

The victim wanted to end the relationship

Because his version of events doesn’t seem to make much sense. According to the New York Post, investigators found the engagement ring and box in the man’s pocket. However, he claimed that he stuck it on the woman’s finger after the successful marriage proposal.

The family’s statements also raise doubts about the 42-year-old’s innocence. The dead woman’s parents said their daughter wanted to end the relationship. She would not have agreed to a marriage proposal.

The 39-year-old graphic designer also suffered from fear of heights and panic attacks. According to her family, she would never have voluntarily come so close to the abyss. D. initially survived the fall from a height of 32 meters, but later succumbed to her injuries.

Was there an argument beforehand?

Another piece of evidence incriminates the suspect: Police found broken glasses and a broken speaker at the crime scene – signs of a violent altercation. The New York Post reports this.

G. is currently being held on suspicion of “intentional manslaughter” and is awaiting trial.

Femicide – the gender-based killing of women – is an ongoing problem in Turkey. This is evident from the figures from Monument Counter, a digital memorial for women who have died due to violence: At least 380 women have been murdered by men in Turkey so far this year, compared to 408 last year.
