Now more and more details about his adventurous escape are coming to light: during his walk through the mountains, the teenager was apparently looking for British identity documents. Because: He really wanted to go to school and ‘live a normal life’.

He needed ID

Alex B. left Britain with his mother Melanie B. (43) and his grandfather David (64) in 2017 to go on holiday near the Spanish city of Marbella. But instead of sunbathing on the beach, the boy ended up in a remote holiday home. His mother is said to have been a member of a ‘spiritual commune’. According to ‘The Sun’, the community lived completely cut off from civilization and education in the Spanish hamlet of La Bastide.

Alex B’s grandfather worked as a craftsman in the house and received room and board in return. His mother belonged to the nomadic ‘spiritual community’ in the Ariège and Aude region.

A couple who also lived in the holiday home responded via Facebook to the boy’s appearance. The two only knew the teen as “Zach.” They wrote: “He wanted to study computer science and therefore really wanted to go to school. He wanted to live a normal life again.” For this, Alex needed his ID, which he apparently no longer had.

“He wanted to find a way to get to Britain.”

They described the 17-year-old as a nice boy who enjoyed cooking and was friendly. “We offered to take him to the British consulate,” the couple revealed. “However, he told us that he would find a way to return to Britain himself. There he wanted to apply for new papers and go back to school.” They had this conversation on December 10. After that they didn’t hear from him again until they read his story in the media.

Over the weekend, the teenager was finally able to hug his grandmother again. For the 68-year-old, the reunion was overwhelming, a source told The Sun. “She last saw Alex as a little boy and now he’s become a cool teenager.” Many tears were shed during the meeting.

In the meantime, the police are continuing the investigation. It needs to be clarified whether Alex was the victim of a crime. (An)
