Bomb blasts, shrapnel and dead soldiers on the battlefield: the battle for the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka has been fierce since October. The Russians continue to use new weapons against the Ukrainian forces and try to encircle the city. But not without a price: the Ukrainians also manage to inflict significant losses on their opponents. A Russian soldier now provides insight into the situation at the front. It quickly becomes clear: the Russians’ willingness to fight is decreasing.
“Of the 75 soldiers, only 14 are left,” the desperate man says in a video on platform X. The rest are dead or injured. “They just destroyed us.” According to British intelligence, the scene in Avdiivka is considered one of the places where the largest number of Russian soldiers were killed.
“We only survived because we have an instinct for self-preservation.”
The soldier then films the destroyed nature. ‘Look what’s happening here. This forest belt was still alive when we came here.” You see a musty, burnt tree lying dead on the ground. “We only survived because we have a very strong instinct for self-preservation,” reports the fighter. During his recordings, times to hear impacts.
It is estimated that 1,500 people still live in Avdiivka. Before the war of aggression there were about 32,000. The remaining people seek shelter in cellars. Almost all buildings were destroyed during the fighting.
Experts believe that the Russian offensive at Avdiivka is the largest after the Battle of Bakhmut. The city is considered a key position for Russia to control the two easternmost Ukrainian provinces. However, the group “Frontelligence Insight” admits in an analysis: “The overall situation for the Ukrainian armed forces in Avdiivka has stabilized.” According to Frontelligence Insight, there is a potential change in the Russian approach. “One version would be to besiege the enemy instead of continuing the originally planned attack or encirclement of the city. But the attacks continue anyway.” (An)
