This is noodle
When Willy Wonka, looking for a place to sleep, is lured into a devious job in their laundry by Mrs. Scrubbit (Olivia Colman) and Bleacher (Tom Davis), the ambitious chocolatier meets young Noodle. She tries to warn him when Wonka is about to sign Mrs. Scrubbit’s contract, but is ultimately unable to save him because Wonka unfortunately never learned to read.
She knows all too well what awaits Wonka: years of imprisonment and work in the laundry, from which he can only get out by paying an exorbitantly high price by signing himself. Although many travelers have fallen into this trap, Noodle himself has never signed such a contract.

Instead, Mrs. Scrubbit found her as a little baby in the laundry chute and raised her as an orphan from then on. Because Mrs. Scrubbit gives her a roof over her head and food, she has to work in the laundry room to pay off a whopping 20,000 thalers. Noodle doesn’t know who her parents were; all she has left of them is a signet ring with an ‘N’, which she thinks stands for ‘Noodle’.
While Noodle tastes chocolate and hopes for freedom for the first time through Wonka, she helps him escape from the laundry during the day to sell his chocolate creations. She tries to teach him to read, as she has had a keen interest in literature for years, with nothing but books to give her solace in the laundry. This ultimately creates a hopeful friendship between Noodle and Wonka.

When Willy takes over the chocolate cartel over the evil Mr. Slugworth (Peterson Joseph), he eventually makes a deal with them to pay off the debts of Noodle and the rest of the laundry workers and free them from captivity. While Mrs. Scrubbit actually lets the laundry team go, she keeps Noodle there – because Mr. Slughworth paid her extra for it. But why?
Wonka eventually notices that Slugworth is wearing the same ring as Noodle and confronts him in the grand finale. Here Slugworth explains that Noodle is his brother’s daughter and received the ring from him – the “N” is therefore a “Z”, matching her father’s name. After his death, Noodle would have become co-heir to the family fortune. By making Noodle disappear from the scene, Slugworth could claim sole inheritance instead. She also discovers that her mother Dorothy is still alive – and working in a library. Ultimately, with Wonka’s help, Noodle fulfills her greatest fantasy: meeting her mother.
That’s why you know Calah Lane
For Calah Lane, ‘Wonka’ is the biggest project the 18-year-old actress has been involved in to date – but she has a few other productions in her filmography where we could see her in small roles. These include the Netflix series “Hollywood” and “Family Annex,” as well as an episode of the 2021 melodrama “This Is Us.” There are also appearances in “Jean Seberg” alongside Kristen Stewart, as well as “The Day Will Come’ by Chris Morris. Calah Lane has been appearing in ‘Wonka’ in German cinemas since December 7.
