As the Treasury Department in Washington announced on Friday, from 2024 onwards, the purchase of electric cars will only be subsidized by the state if they “do not contain battery components” manufactured or assembled in China, Russia, North Korea or Iran .
According to the Ministry of Finance, from 2025 there will no longer be a right to state financing if certain metals from the four countries mentioned are installed in an electric car. However, before the new regulations from the Ministry of Finance can come into effect, the public must be given the opportunity to comment on them.
The Inflation Reduction Act climate subsidy program of US President Joe Biden’s administration provides bonuses of up to $7,500 for the purchase of a US-made electric car. The scheme is also being criticized in the EU because it puts European car manufacturers at a disadvantage.
