It is difficult to imagine what Yarden Bibas (34) has experienced in recent weeks. The Israeli, his wife Shiri (†32) and their two children Ariel (†4) and Kfir (†10 months) were kidnapped by Hamas to Gaza on October 7. The family spent weeks in captivity. The photos of the two red-haired boys went around the world. Then the shock: On Thursday, Hamas announced that Shiri, Ariel and Kfir were dead. However, the terrorist organization has not provided any evidence of this.

On Friday, Hamas released a video of Yarden Bibas. It shows the completely distraught father who has just found out that his family is dead. In front of the camera, Bibas begs Israeli minister Benjamin Netanyahu (74) to take his family back to Israel so they can be buried there.

“Netanyahu, you bombed and killed my wife and my two children, who were the most important things in my life,” he says through tears. Hamas blames Israeli airstrikes for the deaths of the three Israelis. And this despite the fact that Gaza has not been attacked for several days. “I ask you to take me, my wife and my children home,” Yarden Bibas continues.

Not the first hostage video

But the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are unsure whether Hamas is telling the truth due to the lack of evidence. “The IDF is verifying the authenticity of the information.” The family members have been informed.

Was Yarden Bibas perhaps forced by Hamas to blame Netanyahu for the death of his family? The video is reminiscent of an incident from a few weeks ago. Danielle Aloni (44) was also dragged in front of the camera while in captivity by Hamas. In a propaganda video, she and two other women called on Netanyahu to agree to a ceasefire. It was also not clear in this video whether the women were forced to make these statements by terrorists. Aloni was one of the first hostages released last Friday, along with her daughter.

The alleged death of the two children and the mother is a shock to the relatives. They had hoped the three would be released as part of the agreed ceasefire. 81 women and children were handed over to the Red Cross, but there was still no trace of Shirin, Ariel and Kfir.

Statements not verified

“Our thoughts go out to the entire Bibas family. We will continue to return all our prisoners,” the IDF said on the case. And: “Hamas uses psychological terror against the families of the prisoners. Their goal is to apply pressure to damage our resilience.” The IDF also urged caution: “The statements about the Bibas family have not been verified.”

Hamas has spread false information several times in the past. The terrorists claimed that Hanna Katzir, 77, was dead – two days later she was one of the first hostages released.
