Within a few hours: more than 100,000 e-vignettes have already been sold

On December 1, a woman buys an electronic highway vignette on her smartphone.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) announced this to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday afternoon. The rush was so great that disruptions to the federal portal occurred due to the large number of accesses.

The e-vignette was introduced on August 1. However, so far only the 2023 vignette could be purchased, which most drivers had already purchased at the beginning of this year. The electronic offering is only now becoming relevant for many people.

The e-vignette is available via the “Via Portal” of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) or via a website specially created for this purpose. If you want the vignette electronically, you must enter the vehicle category, country of registration and license plate number. Unlike the self-adhesive vignette, which is purchased for a specific car, the e-vignette is attached to the license plate.

The offer for the self-adhesive version continues to exist. The 2024 motorway vignette, electronic or self-adhesive, is valid for the same period as before, namely from December 1, 2023 to January 31, 2025. It costs 40 francs.

The introduction of the electronic version took years. In 2017, the Federal Council conducted a consultation. Due to the controversial results, in 2018 he advocated the introduction of a voluntary e-vignette, which would be offered in parallel to the previous self-adhesive vignette. (SDA)
