Jeremy Gaedke is stunned. The owner of an animal farm in Appenweier near Strasbourg (F) was burglarized last week. “When we arrived at the farm on Monday morning, we found chaos,” Gaedke told “Bild”. “We immediately alerted the police, who arrived on the scene with forensic technology. There was damage and signs of forced entry to the animal enclosures and roof.”
Apparently the burglars wanted to wire a tractor and make off with it. When that didn’t work, the strangers took something completely different: a nine-day-old baby dog.
But that is not enough. On Thursday evening, intruders regained access to the animal farm, which is also home to chickens, ducks, geese and raccoons. This time they stole two more puppies. Jeremy Gaedke also found the dog’s mother, a Russian shepherd dog of the Ovcharka breed, injured.
“A tragedy for our farm”
A puppy was later found dead in a pasture on the adjacent property. “The puppies cannot survive without their mother at this age,” Gaedke explains sadly. “The death and the whole incident have taken their toll on all of us here. We are speechless – it is a tragedy for our farm.” The owner of an animal farm takes care of 190 animals in his small kingdom.
The motive for the crime is not yet known. Witnesses who can provide information and tips are asked to report to the local police station in Appenweier. (obf)
