The developer of the chatbot ChatGPT, OpenAI, has fired his boss Sam Altman (38). OpenAI explained on Friday that Altman had not always been “honest” in his communications with the board. “The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue to lead OpenAI.”

Former OpenAI technology boss Mira Murati will temporarily lead the company, which specializes in artificial intelligence, with immediate effect. The search for a new boss is in full swing.

At the beginning of this month, Altman gave the keynote speech in San Francisco. He announced at the first ChatGPT developer conference that the bot would be cheaper and smarter.

OpenAI was initially founded in 2015 as a non-profit company. It caused a stir about a year ago with the introduction of ChatGPT: the program can use artificial intelligence (AI) to generate essays, poems or conversations based on very short prompts. ChatGPT suddenly made the possibilities of AI known to a large audience – which also led to fear about the potential of AI.

Altman became the face of artificial intelligence, but also found words of caution. “Artificial intelligence has the potential to improve almost every aspect of our lives,” the technology entrepreneur told Congress in May. “But it also carries serious risks.” (male/AFP)
