The GPK working group investigated 200 leaks about Corona indiscretions of the Federal Council. In the investigation report, she states that information has been leaked from various departments. And the FDP Council of States of Zug, Matthias Michel, as chairman of the Audit Committee of the Council of States, stated that they were not only looking at Alain Berset’s Interior Department.

But the working group only looked closely at Berset’s EDI. No employee emails were requested and reviewed in any other department. We had to limit ourselves to looking “where we could probably find something in this haystack,” said Thomas de Courten, the group’s vice president and SVP national councilor.

The EDI emphatically points out that the release of Berset’s emails over a period of 29 months is considered proportionate – at the same time, in the GPK’s opinion, the investigation into emails from other departments would have been disproportionate. Even though Berset’s department is obviously defending its own boss here, it is still disturbing. An unbiased, balanced investigation looks different.

The EDI, namely former spokesperson Peter Lauener, was suspected of passing information to Ringier Publishing CEO Marc Walder with the knowledge or even on behalf of Alain Berset. The publisher that publishes Blick was fueled so that Blick would publish articles with advance information to put pressure on the Federal Council as a whole. However, the GPK working group has not found any evidence for this.

Conversely, the head of the National Council GPK, Prisca Birrer-Heimo, continuously defended Berset at the press conference on the GPK report. No wonder: just like Berset, she also belongs to the SP.

The bottom line is that the work of the GPK and its working group gives the impression of a lot of party politics. There is no clear will to actually get to the bottom of what is happening.
