Almost two weeks after the dramatic hostage drama at Hamburg airport, the mother of the kidnapped four-year-old girl confided to a newspaper: The 35-year-old told the newspaper ‘Bild’ on Wednesday that the 18-hour kidnapping of her daughter was “the most terrible moments of my life” would have meant.
On the evening of November 4, an armed driver with his daughter in the back seat broke through an airport tarmac entrance and then stopped the car on the tarmac – the start of hours of negotiations with the hijacker. Apparently he had previously fooled the girl’s mother via the Internet, she now told “Bild”.
In the report, the woman from Stade, a town near Hamburg, recalls: “I had advertised a women’s coat in advertisements and a supposed mother from Ukraine wanted to pick it up.” When she opened the door, her ex-husband was standing at the door. He grabbed her daughter from her, shot twice in the air – and fled in his rental car.
Man terrorizes mother for years – no restraining order
She immediately alerted the police, who started looking for the 35-year-old, who had already kidnapped their daughter to Turkey. The couple has lived separately for years and has had a bitter custody battle over their daughter; the mother now has sole custody.
It wasn’t until around midnight that she learned from police that her husband had driven her daughter onto the tarmac of Hamburg airport, bringing the entire airport to a standstill – about five hours after the kidnapping had begun. The mother made serious accusations against the Stade court: she tried twice to get her violent ex-husband banned from approaching her – but the court rejected it because nothing had happened so far.
Salman E. is said to have repeatedly become violent during the woman’s pregnancy – and to have kidnapped her daughter to Turkey last year. She could only free her child from there by going to her ex-husband and playing the ‘good wife’. When he fell asleep, she locked her ex-partner in the bedroom and fled back to Germany with her daughter.
Once there, authorities hid them in a women’s shelter for three months, but took no further action against their tormentor. After the divorce was officially finalized on October 9, Salman E. is said to have developed his kidnapping plan. Mother and daughter receive psychological care and the 35-year-old kidnapper is in custody.
