The eldest sister of former US President Donald Trump has died. Former federal judge Maryanne Trump Barry was discovered early Monday morning in her apartment in the New York district of Manhattan, several American media unanimously reported. The ABC TV channel reported that rescuers had been called due to a heart attack.

Barry was a judge of the appeals court in the US state of New Jersey until 2019. Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan first appointed her to a district court in 1983, and she became an appellate judge in 1999 following a decision by President Bill Clinton. Barry eventually resigned amid investigations into possible tax fraud by her father and siblings.

Donald Trump was president of the US for four years from 2017 and wants to be elected for a new term next year. The 77-year-old initially did not comment on his sister’s death. Barry made critical comments about him in recordings published in 2020, describing him as a liar “without principles”. The ex-president hesitated to make statements about her. (sda/dpa)
