About twenty climate activists from the ‘last generation’ suddenly appeared in front of the chancellery in Berlin on Tuesday. They paint ‘Olaf lies’ on the wall and are initially not stopped by a police officer. Until reinforcements finally arrive.

A plainclothes police officer behaves extremely brutally, as evidenced by a video shared by the ‘Last Generation’ on X. He first pulls an activist to the ground, presses his knee into her back, twists her arm behind her back and her clearly in pain.

He is threatened with legal consequences

Finally, he forces another activist to the ground. He takes a paintbrush from her and smears paint on the first activist’s face. The man then handcuffs the women.

The man is now facing legal consequences for his behavior. A spokeswoman confirmed to the “Berliner Zeitung” that the man in plain clothes was actually a Berlin police officer. The responsible department of the state police is already investigating the officer. He faces disciplinary proceedings and subsequent criminal proceedings.

“Violence versus nonviolence is never justified”

Daniel Peter, a criminal lawyer, told ‘RTL’: ‘He could face legal action for bodily harm, especially if the paint may even be toxic and cause health problems.’

A spokeswoman for ‘Last Generation’, Irma Trommer, told ‘RTL’ that the incident was ‘terrifying’. The police have clear instructions on how to behave. The actions of the “Last Generation” are always nonviolent. “Therefore, violence against nonviolence is never justified.” According to Trommer, the police officer was clearly overwhelmed and expressed personal dissatisfaction with his behavior – but this “has no place in the police”.
