US: Man tries to switch off machines during flight and is arrested in revenge of Prigozhin

A pilot who allegedly tried to shut down the plane’s engines during an off-duty flight has been charged with more than 80 counts of attempted murder in the United States. The incident happened Sunday on an Alaska Airlines flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, California, the airline said in a statement Monday.

The man “attempted without success to disrupt the operation of the engines.” There was a ‘credible security threat’. However, the pilot and co-pilot responded quickly: the engines never stopped and the flight, operated by Horizon Air on behalf of Alaska Air, was safely diverted to Portland, Oregon. All passengers could have continued on a later flight.

According to media reports, the suspect is a 44-year-old man who was taken into custody at the airport. There was initially no further information, including a possible motive. The FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), among others, are investigating the incident. (sda/dpa)
