The two Swiss drivers Peter (†67) and Therese F.* (†63) died this week during a risky overtaking maneuver. The couple took part in the “Sardinia Supercar Experience” in Sardinia in a rented Ferrari. This is a luxury car meeting.
Bollywood star Gayatri Joshi (46) and her husband Vikas Oberoi (54) were also at the meeting. The two couples had a fatal accident on a country road near the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu.
The Swiss couple tried to overtake a mobile home. Behind the camper, Joshi and Oberoi drove a blue Lamborghini. The Swiss couple had swerved into the opposite lane to overtake both vehicles at the same time. But when the Ferrari was just level with the Lamborghini, Oberoi, who was driving the Lamborghini, also tried to overtake the camper. He also drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into the Ferrari. The blue Lamborghini ended up next to the road, the red Ferrari caught fire and overturned. The mobile home fell over.

While Joshi, Oberoi and the two occupants of the camper were able to save themselves, the Swiss Peter (†67) and Therese F.* (†63) died in the burning Ferrari. The couple from Wolkenstein (me), who were in the mobile home, had to be taken to a hospital. Joshi and Oberoi were completely unharmed – at least physically.
As the Daily Mail reports, Joshi sat on the street next to the broken-down Lamborghini after the accident. It is said that she cried there. She was visibly shocked. Her husband, on the other hand, put his hands on his hips and looked in disbelief at the scene of the accident, reports the Indian television channel NDTV. Joshi later told the Indian Free Press Journal: “Vikas and I are in Italy. We had an accident here. By God’s grace, we are both doing absolutely fine.”
Although they were unhurt, the accident will likely haunt the couple for some time. Oberoi is being investigated by the Italian Public Prosecution Service for “double murder in road traffic”. However, he must be able to afford a good lawyer. He is one of the richest men in India. He owns, among other things, a luxury hotel chain and seven luxury cruise ships. Joshi is also successful.
