Besiktas Istanbul needs to look for a coach. A day after the 2-3 home defeat in the Conference League against FC Lugano, Senol Günes handed in his resignation.
Günes explained that “fresh blood” was needed, according to the 21-time Turkish champion. The 71-year-old former Turkish national coach, who has enjoyed cult status in his home country since third place at the 2002 World Cup, succeeded Frenchman Valérien Ismaël at Besiktas almost a year ago.
In the championship, the Istanbul team is in fourth place after seven rounds, eight points behind city rival Fenerbahce, who is at the top. (SDA)
